"Global economic meltdown, mass natural disasters, pandemics... Whatever the apocalyptic scenario, "preppers" are ready for it. Lamps made from potatoes, toilet paper from cloth, toothpaste from glycerin and... lots of Spam".

there are many groups like this, especially in America - mostly ins desert ares such as Idaho and Utah and Arizona. They also refer to themselves as "survivalists" They believe in being prepared. They stash large supplies of food, water, power etc so as to be able to survive for anything from six months to a year, if some major catastrophe were to hit where they are living.
Have you ever stashed food etc against an emergency? In your opinion, what would be best items to stash, if you were going to get involved in being prepared for and emergency?

I'm just trying to think, what things in my house, I consider essential in order to be preared for an emergency.
#1. I think is my torch. if I have a power failure in the middle of the night, I need the torch in order to get to the power source in the garage.
#2. Flour - so that, if I run out of bread, I can bake.
#4. A spare pack of Barry's tea. If ever i ran o0ut of that, I would be in BIG trouble?
#3. First Aid kit - always handy to have in the house, in case i cut myself while chopping my veggies.
Well - these are just miner emergencies - but one has to start somewhere! ;D

To prepare for a hurricane they say to have plenty of bottled water, canned food w/ an opener, your medicines, flashlight & extra batteries (torch), & a battery operated radio.
As for the survivalists, who wants to live in a world where that many people are wiped out?

I saw a documentary recently about several survivalists. the problem most of them seemed to have - was not stash8ing up their supplies - but I how to protect their stores from marauders , once it became known that they were a source of supplies that other people didn't have - who were not prepared
It most cases then, it became necessary to consider how they were going to defend themselves and their stores against bandits. Most of them resorted to guns - and training every member of their families to use them.
The "experts" advised them to get their whole neighborhood involved in being prepared - while learning from them.
