I'm not allowed to keep poultry, whereas a neighbour can, and in fact does, as he owns his property, so got some, sadly losing one last week. I have had some of their eggs and they were lovely.

I'd love to have hens, but unfortunately i would have difficulty in getting anyone to look after them if I was away. Also, we get foxes coming in over the garages, so I would have to be extra vigilant to make sure they were safe at all times.

I have mates who have rescued hens, and they do not cause a lot of trouble. I think it is a great idea, and something I would dearly love to do. I do not buy battery hen eggs for this purpose as it is outdated and cruel for the hens.
All hens need freedom to be happy, and keeping them, and giving them a lovely life is heart warming.

I was brought up with hens and chickens. As children we made pets of them all and had neames on each one. Then, as inevitably happened, one of them would be killed for the pot! My father used to tease us about how we didn't mind eating our favourite when it came down to it! LOL!
