Not too far from me, I have noticed a hedge full of Cherry Plums. I am going out early tomorrow to pick tons, and make in to lots of interesting dishes, and some jam. I don't think anyone ever picks them, as they usually fall all over the path, and are left. I am sure people do not know, that they are edible. I always make use of what nature provides, and since there are two types, red, and yellow, I will be busy. So, if I bring a ladder, I dare say I will get a few looks, but....so what. If nature is good enough to provide, it is polite to except graciously, and thank her.

That took me back a lot of years Elaine. As a kid in Somerset we had a massive cherry plum tree in the garden. I think the must be a west country tree as I haven't seen any elsewhere

I have seen quite a few here, as they are simply planted as hedges. I am eagle eyed now, as have quite a lot to make jam with. I have seen one on a bit of land I do not know owns it, but they are high up. Luckily I have long arms, and a cheek too, so will ask about, and see if I can have some. One is near where I work too, so will ask when I pass by it tomorrow. I don't think many people do have cherry plum trees in their gardens much now though, unless it is an old garden. I was over the moon today, as got given a huge bag of Victoria plums, which I love. I will make a fruit cake with some, do a crumble with the others, and make jam with the rest. You should see the size of this bag . It is lovely when you get surprises like that, so I will not let them go to waste, at all. I have never seen a damson tree at all, although I do love damson jam. I know where a few pear trees are too, along by a tow path, and a huge apple tree. WF, you will have to go and get some damsons later on too, and make something nice.

I go mad when I think of my meddling neighbor who prevailed on the County Council to cut down three beautiful flowering cherries from the road in front of my house!
